NBA 2K24 Tips & Tricks: How To Finish At The Rim!

Our latest SGO tutorial guide covers what moves in the player arsenal will help you finish best in the paint in NBA 2K24.

NBA 2K24: Finishing at the rim!

You’re going to want to know how to change how you want to make your layups in NBA 2K24. First off, we’re going to go over how to change the settings of how you’re going to make your layups in NBA 2K24. Go into Settings>Features>Controller Settings and scroll down to “Shot Timing”.

From here, this lets you decide how you’re going to make your layups. The main 2 settings will be “shots and layups” (which means you have to deal with a meter) and just “shots” (which means you won’t have to worry about perfecting a meter while you perform layups).

Make Sure You Have Space

Now when driving, you’re always going to want to make sure you have space to operate. So looking through your playbook or different freelances that offer that space for you is ideal, so you’re not running into 2-3 defenders because your center and power forward are sitting at the free throw line.

Aim Points

When driving, it’s important to use the free throw line as your guide and the low block/elbow if you’re coming from the side. If it looks like the defender is going to beat you here, they’ll be able to wall you off and make life difficult for you to score. If having these marks in your head, can help you attack faster when the defender gives up to the angle for you to access it.

Quick Scoop Layups

The first move I want to go over is my favorite for 2 years running and it’s the quick scoop layup. It’s best utilized when you have beaten your defender and the last line of defense is still parked near the hoop leaving a bit of space in between you and him. To pull this move off, you want to first let go of the turbo and then hold the right stick directly to the left or right (whichever hand you want to finish with)

EuroStep

A well-executed Eurostep will get you past the last line of defense into open space for a shot. The key to this move is messing with the interior defender’s timing thinking you’re driving one way and going up immediately, while instead changing directions.

Hop Step

One of the best things about the hop step is you don’t automatically go up for a shot, so you can use it as a way to probe the defender even if you know a shot isn’t available.

Floater

Floaters are super deadly in the mid-range area this year, so you’re going to want to make sure it’s a heavy part of your diet. As soon as you get into the free-throw line area is when you are going to want to start noticing where the last line of defense is and if he’s giving up the floater area to you.

Reverse Layup

A reverse layup aims to get you a clean shot against a trailing defender, by forcing you out the other side while using the rim as a defender. The move is lovely because you’re always going to finish on the other side, you just have to make sure it’s going to be a clean shot. If a defender is waiting on the other side, then maybe you should try something else.

Dunking in NBA 2K24

Two-Handed Dunks

The 2 hand dunk is favorable because it’s harder to get blocked from behind when you attempt it, even though 2 hand dunk animations tend to start closer to the rim. So you’re going to want to trigger these once you clear inside the free-throw line.

Dominant/Off-Hand Dunk

You’re always going to  want to pick the hand furthest away from the closest defender to increase your chances of successfully making it

Skill Dunk

Skill dunks allow you to convert contact dunks at a higher rate, as long as you nail your shooting meter that comes up.

Hang on The Rim

Any two-hand dunk you attempt, you’re able to hand on the rim after doing so, as long as you’re holding the RT/R2 button on your controller as well. Just be careful holding on too long or you may be called for a delay of game.

Flashy Dunk

To pull off a 1 or 2 handed flashy dunk in NBA 2K24, you just have to hold RT/R2 on your controller and aim your right stick directly down.
