EA CEO Andrew Wilson suggests that Madden 22 cover might be unexpecting

With E3 2021 looming around, EA will reveal Madden NFL 22 “soon enough” and the cover may just surprise you. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the EA Sports team are doing something “a little different” for the illustrious cover of Madden 22, but he wouldn’t reveal any further details.

When asked directly by Bloomberg News who would be the cover athlete of Madden 22, Wilson said “We’re going to know soon enough. I reviewed it with the team just a few days ago. I can tell you that they have more surprises afoot.” He added that he is proud of the team at EA and the work that’s been done with the game, cover, and the marketing built around it.

Last year’s cover athlete was 2019 MVP, Lamar Jackson. It was particularly different last year because the COVID-19 pandemic made physical contact with the cover athlete impossible.

Who Will be the Cover Athlete?

Names have been thrown around as cover athletes amongst the community. Derrick Henry led the NFL is Rushing two seasons in a row, two time MVP Aaron Rodgers, 2020 defensive player of the year Aaron Donald and even Tom Brady have all had their names thrown into the cover athlete mix.

Wilson went on to add that Madden 21 was an extremely profitable one because of the increase of players and engagement with the community bolstering record numbers. This is in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic but also the growing gaming community, something that Wilson commented on. Furthermore, Wilson is hopeful that they will continue to grow the player base of Madden and the other yearly sports titles that EA has in store.

EA will have its EA PLAY event July 22, however they are still a part of the E3 schedule which starts June 12, 2021.
