EA Sports to Remove CPR Celebration from Madden 23

Madden 23 Skills Competition

Madden 23 has been a hot topic for conversation online over the last few weeks. From Franchise mode to MUT issues, everyone has had something to say about the game. Now, players have been talking about a certain celebration in the game, with some calling for it to be removed.

EA Sports to Remove CPR Celebration from Madden 23

The celebration in question is a team celebration where two players pretend to give CPR to another player. This celebration can be triggered in the game by choosing a Team from the option after scoring a touchdown. This is a celebration that had been done a few times in real life by NFL players. This includes as recently as this past week when Steelers LB Alex Highsmith did a similar celebration after a sack.

However, fans feel like this celebration is now inappropriate following the scary situation involving Bills S Damar Hamlin. Hamlin collapsed on the field during a January 2 game against the Bengals. Medical personnel immediately administered CPR and other life-saving aid to Hamlin before he was taken in an ambulance to the hospital. The game was postponed and eventually canceled by the NFL due to the seriousness of the situation. Thankfully, Hamlin’s health has improved, and signs show he is on the road to recovery.

In the days following this incident, fans realized that the CPR celebration in Madden NFL 23 felt weird and inappropriate. After seeing Hamlin in such a critical position, the intended silly nature of the celebration had been erased. This led players to ask EA Sports to remove this celebration from the game.

EA Response

In a statement to PC Gamer, an EA representative said, “EA Sports is taking steps to remove the celebration from Madden NFL 23 via an update in the coming days.” The statement did not state specifically when the celebration would be removed.

This is not the first time EA Sports has removed controversial content from Madden NFL. Last year, former Raiders head coach John Gruden was removed from the game once he was terminated for sending racist and homophobic emails.
