A new chapter in esports history was written on Friday when Chicago’s Henry “Henry” Leverette became the first player to surpass the million-dollar earnings mark in Madden esports. His victory at the Ultimate Madden Bowl championship cemented his status as an esports legend and enriched his bank account by $250,000.

In a thrilling final held at the Mandalay Bay’s House of Blues in Las Vegas, the number one seed, Henry, showcased his dominant gameplay by defeating the 10th-seed Wesley “Wesley” Gittens with a decisive 35-24 scoreline.

The triumph at this prestigious event increased Henry’s career earnings to $1,170,975. The 20-year-old prodigy from Chicago didn’t just take home a hefty cash prize—he was also awarded a championship ring, mirroring the accolades given to Super Bowl champions. The Ultimate Madden Bowl win marks Henry’s seventh title in the Madden Championship Series (MCS).

The runner-up, 25-year-old Wesley from Austin, Texas, demonstrated commendable skill throughout the tournament. Despite his loss in the final, Wesley secured a $150,000 prize, boosting his career MCS earnings to $720,675 and solidifying his position as the second-highest earner in the series.

The championship match was a nail-biter, tied at 7-7 until the first half’s final minute. That’s when Henry’s strategic play culminated in a spectacular 69-yard interception return by his virtual avatar of the legendary Night Train Lane. Wesley responded with a touchdown reception from a virtual Travis Kelce to take a 17-14 lead in the third quarter. However, Henry wasn’t to be outdone, regaining the lead with a 62-yard touchdown reception from a virtual Calvin Johnson as the third quarter expired.

The fourth quarter saw the players exchange touchdowns, but Henry maintained the upper hand, leading 28-24. With just 48 seconds remaining, another game-changing interception by Lane confirmed Henry’s victory, and he further extended his lead with a late touchdown to solidify the final score.

Post-match, an exhilarated Henry reflected on his performance. “I feel amazing, man,” he exclaimed. “It wasn’t even my best game. I’m happy I got out of that one, man. I’m not playing my best, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.”

Henry’s achievement is a testament to his skills, perseverance, and the explosive growth of esports. His victory at the Ultimate Madden Bowl will be remembered as a milestone in competitive gaming.
