MLB The Show 23 Reveals Top Player Ratings

Today, we got our first look at the player ratings coming to MLB The Show 23 later this month. In a three hour stream on the SDS Twitch channel, we got to see who the highest rated players in the game will be. We also got to see who the highest rated players on each team will be as well.

99 Overall Players

The first big news from the stream was that there will be 5 players receive a 99 OVR rating at launch. The first 99 OVR player is reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge. This is no surprise as Judge is coming off one of the greatest offensive years in recent memory. Judge hit an AL record 62 HRs, along with driving in 131 runs while posting a league high 10.4 WAR.

The next two players are also no surprise as LA Angels superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani both received 99 OVR ratings. Trout, despite playing in only 119 games, hit 40 HRs and finished 8^th in AL MVP voting. Ohtani continued being the most electrifying player in all of baseball as he dominated at both the plate and from the mound. Ohtani hit 34 HRs while also posting a 2.33 ERA with 219 strikeouts and finishing in the top 5 for both AL MVP and Cy Young voting.

The final two 99 OVR players are Cardinals 1B Paul Goldschmidt and Rangers SP Jacob deGrom. Goldschmidt is coming off the best year of his career where he won NL MVP and had a .317/.404/.578 slash line to go along with 35 HRs and 115 RBIs. deGrom on the other hand only appeared in 11 games last year due to injuries and posted a career low 1.4 WAR. It seems that the new Rangers ace is primed for a bounce back year worthy of that huge contract he just signed.
