SMU Safety Jonathan McGill Discusses EA Sports College Football – Full Interview

The return of EA Sports College Football video game series has everybody excited. The game, which is slated to release this summer, is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Among those excited are the people who will actually be in the video game. With new NIL rules in place, EA Sports is set to include actual college football players in the game for the first time.

Since this is such an anticipated release, we decided to talk to some of the players who will be in the game this summer. We wanted to understand what it felt like to be one of the players who get to be included in one of the most hyped video game releases in years.

Today, we got to talk to SMU safety Jonathan McGill. McGill spent three years at Stanford before transferring to SMU before the 2023 season. McGill grew up in Coppell, Texas, which is just about 30 minutes away from SMU’s campus.

In 2023, McGill was a team captain and had one of the best seasons of his college career. McGill recorded 55 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and one interception which he returned 34 yards for a touchdown. McGill’s performance earned him an All-AAC Third Team selection. He also helped propel the Mustangs to an 11-3 record. SMU also won the American Athletic Conference Championship Game, earning the program its first conference championship since 1984.
