As we draw closer to the release date of FIFA 23, EA has released its first batch of player ratings for the upcoming game. This year, five players have received an overall of 91. Gone are the days of Leo Messi’s massive 95 overall rating; however, young players, like Mbappe and Haaland, could take that place in the coming years.

Karim Benzema, Real Madrid – 91
Karim Benzema deserves his 2-point increase from last years game. He led Real Madrid to another Champions League trophy and La Liga title. Last season, Benzema lit the Spanish league on fire with 27 goals, making him the league’s top goal scorer. It’s safe to say Karim Benzema is one of the best strikers in the world.
Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona – 91
Before his move to Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski was a nightmare in the German Bundesliga. He scored 35 goals in the Bundesliga and led his previous club, Bayern Munich, to the Champions League’s quarter-finals.
Lewandowski drops 1 point from last year’s rating, most likely because of age; he is currently 34. However, just like Benzema, Lewandowski is still one of the world’s best strikers.
Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain – 91
FIFA 23‘s cover boy, Kylian Mbappe, keeps his rating of 91. Even though his only 23 years old, Mbappe is one of the best players in the world. Last season he was a nightmare for defenders as he scored 28 goals in the french league.
Mbappe has already achieved so much in his young career, with multiple French League titles and a World Cup under his belt.
Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City – 91
Over the last couple of years, Kevin de Bruyne has been considered the best midfielder in the world. His creativity, vision, and consistency make him a world-class player. De Bruyne keeps his 91 overall going into FIFA 23, and I don’t think he will go much higher than that.
Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain – 91
One of the more significant changes to the FIFA ratings is the drop of Leo Messi. On FIFA 15, Messi was a massive 95 overall; from there, he danced around 93 to 94. Messi’s recent 2-point decrease could be due to his role at PSG. He’s not the primary goal scorer anymore, but he is more of a playmaker and the facilitator to teammates Mbappe and Neymar.
Regardless of his form in the French League, Messi isn’t just one of the best players in the world, but one of the best players ever.
Other Notable Ratings
Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United – 90
Cristiano Ronaldo remains in the 90s but does drop another point in his overall. The Portuguese international’s age continues to affect his overall rating. Nevertheless, at 37 years old, he scored 18 in his return to the Premier League and continues to perform at the highest level.
Neymar Jr, Pairs Saint-Germain – 89
Neymar Jr drops 2 points, leading him out of the 90s since FIFA 17. While he averages about 20 matches every season for PSG, he still manages to rack up goals and assists.
Erling Haaland, Manchester City – 88
While Erling Haaland keeps his 88 overall from last year, don’t expect that to stay the same for much longer. The Norwegian has already scored two hattricks in his debut season for Manchester City, and he doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down.
Along with Mbappe, Haaland is one of the most exciting talents the world of football offers. I expect him to be the world’s best player in the coming seasons.
