The Game Awards Best Sports/Racing Game Nominations

It’s that time of the year again. Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards is back and ready to award some of the best games of 2021. In front of an empty venue at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Geoff Keighley has taken to YouTube to announce the nominees for this year’s award show. For us here at Sports Gamers Online, we focus mainly on the Sports/Racing category. So, for the complete list of nominees, you can check The Game Awards website here.

Sports/Racing Game Nominations

Like previous Game Awards, not many sports simulation titles make the cut for nominations, which means we typically see more racing games get nominated. FIFA 22 had a good year, with reviews ranging between sevens and eights. However, F1 2021 and Forza Horizon 5 have received major appraise, with both games hitting tens from many reviewers. Hot Wheels Unleased and Riders Republic have also received good reviews and deserve their shout in the category.

Previous Game Awards

The Game Awards 2020 saw Activison’s remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 take the cake. The Tony Hawk Remake prevailed against DIRT 5, F1 2020, FIFA 21, and NBA 2K21.

Our Chief editor Mike Staw reviewed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 last year; here are some of his thoughts.

“No matter which way you spin in, this is an excellent remake from top to bottom. The levels look great, the soundtrack is nostalgic yet modern, and the gameplay brings you back to sitting on your living room floor late at night playing with friends.”
