The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era utilized mid-gen console upgrades to introduce players to 4K gaming. From there, upgrades to home consoles were seen as a regularity by consumers. However, PlayStation wants to continue this trend by releasing a new mid-gen console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, by late next year.
PlayStation 5 Pro
The PS5 is already a hefty unit of a console. It utilizes native 4K with dynamic resolution and supports ray tracing. However, according to a report by Key to Gaming, Sony is currently developing a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Information about this upcoming console is still scarce. However, the report suggests that the PS5 Pro, or ‘Project Trinity,’ will feature an improved frame rate, 4K resolution, and a new performance mode that pushes the console to 8K. If you want to get techy with the specs of this hardware, the report also suggests that ‘Trinity with have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.’
Lastly, Sony’s next console is slated for November 2024. However, nothing has been confirmed from the company’s side just yet.
Will Microsoft do a mid-gen upgrade?
According to Phil Spencer’s interview with Bloomberg, it seems that Microsoft isn’t keen on upgrading its Xbox Series X. “Right now, we’re pretty set on the hardware we have,” Spencer told Bloomberg.
The gaming industry is changing daily, and while Xbox might not want to introduce a mid-gen console right now, that could change once Sony introduces its next console.
