There are few things worse in Madden franchise mode than assembling an elite team only to be stuck with a lackluster quarterback. Trading for QBs can be a make-or-break move in franchise mode, and trading for the wrong guy can see your team tumble down the standings. To help you find the perfect passer to lead you to the Super Bowl, we’ve put together a list of the best QBs to trade for in Madden NFL 24. Not only are these sorted by playstyle, whether you prefer a pure gunslinger, elite runner, or hybrid who can do a little bit of both, but we also offer a budget option if you don’t have a ton of tradable assets.

Madden NFL 24: Top Quarterbacks to Trade For in Franchise Mode
Pocket Passers
- Must-Have: C.J. Stroud – Houston Texans
How could we not recommend the guy who’s having one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history as we speak? C.J. Stroud is an excellent quarterback both in real life and in Madden. The former Ohio State star starts the game as an 81 overall who already has the ability to make quality throws at all three levels. Plus, once you unlock his hidden traits that make throwing under pressure even easier, it’s practically game over.
He might cost a pretty penny as a highly-rated rookie, but Stroud is well worth the investment for teams in need of an elite franchise QB.
- Budget Option: Jordan Love – Green Bay Packers
If C.J. Stroud is too expensive for your taste, you might want to head north for a more budget-friendly option. Green Bay’s Jordan Love has quietly put up some very solid numbers during his first season as a starting quarterback, and his ratings in Madden 24 reflect that. Starting the game as a 74 overall, Love is a solid passer right out of the gate and should be very easy to trade for.
It’s going to take at least a couple of seasons to turn him into a bonafide pro-bowler, but Love is a great choice for those looking to spend their money at other positions.
Mobile QB’s
- Must-Have: Anthony Richardson – Indianapolis Colts
The ultimate project piece, Anthony Richardson is the perfect option for those in need of a mobile QB that are willing to wait. The 2023 top-five pick starts the game with an absolute cannon of an arm, elite speed, and decent tackle-breaking ability, but he’ll need a lot of growth elsewhere, especially with his accuracy before he becomes a true superstar.
Despite this, Richardson’s ceiling makes him hard to pass on if you want the best mobile QB in the game three or four seasons down the line.
- Budget Option: Justin Fields – Chicago Bears
Justin Field’s NFL career has been a rollercoaster so far, but the young QB still remains a viable option for Madden franchise players. Starting the game at a 75 overall, Fields is probably the best runner outside of Lamar Jackson thanks to his lightning speed and excellent change of direction. His arm is decent, but he has concerns with accuracy, especially when under pressure. If you’re trading for Fields, make sure you have a solid o-line in front of him.
Technically, Fields is the better option in terms of overall rating right out of the gate. But, because of his lower potential, fewer years on his rookie deal, and relative ease to trade for, he’s probably a better option for those looking for a bargain pickup.
Hybrids
- Must-Have: Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Chargers
Our #1 recommendation for anyone looking to trade for a QB in Madden NFL 24, Justin Herbert is about as good as it gets. With an absolute cannon arm at 96 throw power, elite accuracy at all levels, and the ability to throw on the run with the best of them, the former Oregon star is going to cost you a king’s ransom, but he’s absolutely worth it.
Is he stretching the definition of a hybrid QB? Maybe. But his speed and acceleration are pretty good, and that ability to throw on the run really helps keep teams guessing.
- Budget Option: Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars
Probably the most criminally underrated player on Madden, Trevor Lawrence is somehow still only an 80 overall, which luckily makes him very easy to trade for. In terms of ratings, you don’t get much more well-rounded than him, with an 84+ on every pass-specific metric.
Besides, he is a sneaky-good runner. His 87 speed and 89 acceleration don’t exactly jump off the page, but 75 on both spin and juke moves is surprisingly good for a QB who’s not a total mobile threat.
