The NBA 2K team today announced that MyGM will be overhauled for NBA 2K20, giving 2K players a brand new experience when playing the mode.
MyGM 2.0
In a post on Facebook today, the 2K team wrote that the overhaul comes after listening to feedback from 2K players. The 2K team wanted to give MyGM a unique identity, and make it stand out from the other game modes, including MyLEAGUE.
In order to do that, MyGM will look a lot different in 2K20. Here are some of the new features coming to MyGM:
-
New action points
-
Scoring and global leaderboards
-
Updated leveling structure and new skill tree
-
Completely new task system
-
Revamped relationships
-
Additional sponsorships and branding
The 2K team wrote that this year’s MyGM will force players to make meaningful decisions, and not just reacting to certain moves in an optimal way again and again. For 2K20, MyGM’s design philosophy is to create more variety for players, but to also make the game mode easy and fun for returning GM players, and for new players.
Action Points
MyGM features a brand-new overlay menu that will show a player’s Action Points (AP). AP’s can include whether to decide to trade a key player, or to have a conversation with a bench player. AP’s, the 2K team hopes, will look to offer players in MyGM a unique path to greatness in the mode by driving decisions.
Leaderboards and Leveling
MyGM 2.0 will also feature difficulties (Easy, Medium and Hard) and whatever difficulty a player picks will affect your game. For instance, selecting a harder difficulty will lower the number of AP’s per day. In addition, MyGM is now global, with players receiving scores that will be posted on the 2K leaderboards.
Leveling has been revamped for 2K20, as you can’t just pick a team, make trades and simulate to a championship. In 2K20, you will start each save from Level 1, and each save will end at “around Level 20.” This year, the primary way to gain experience is to win games and accomplish tasks. The basic idea of this, according to the 2K team, is “that by completing goals randomly generated throughout each save, you’re going to be taking steps that improve your team.” The 2K team added, “Winning also gives experience, as chemistry and morale are building blocks to a dynasty, but don’t forget that you’ll get a lower amount of experience for players you haven’t signed.”
Skill Tree
MyGM now features a “skill tree”, as a player can pick their general style to start, and then move along the tree to acquire various in-game skills. The five trees available in 2K20 are as followed:
Other Features
MyGM has revamped relationships, and keeping up with good relationships will give players access to the full suite of menus. There will also be revamped goals and tasks, and some MyLEAGUE-level features are included in 2K20:
- Staff Card
- Revised Morale and Team Chemistry
- New Personality Badges for Max Players
- History and Badges
- Improved Draft Class Authenticity to the Current NBA
- Improved Player DNA
- LT/RT to Quickly Scroll
- Option to Force Winners
