NBA 2K22 Will Not Feature Crossplay

NBA 2K22

A whole lot of NBA 2K22 information released on Wednesday morning, but not all of it was as good as gamers would hope. According to Take-Two Interactive, the next NBA 2K will not have crossplay capability.

The information comes from 2K22‘s FAQ on its website. Although the next installment of the basketball sim won’t feature crossplay, it will allow MyTeam cross-progression within console families. Here’s the answer from the publisher itself.

Take-Two Interactive on crossplay in NBA 2K22

“There will not be crossplay between different consoles or PC. There will, however, be cross-progression in MyTeam across generations of consoles from the same console family (Xbox One -> Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 -> PlayStation 5).”

Unfortunately this is another year gone by without cross-platform play. Many gamers were hoping that the first full year on next-gen hardware would result in online multiplayer across consoles. That said, MyTeam cross-progression for those who may upgrade throughout the year is a bit of a silver lining, that’s if you play the mode.

NBA 2K22 launches worldwide on September 10, 2021. The leading basketball video game drops on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and all previous generation consoles including Switch as well as PC. Three versions of the game will be released both physically and digitally. These include the Standard, Cross-Gen Digital Bundle, and NBA 75th Anniversary Edition. An NBA 2K22 WNBA 25th Anniversary Edition featuring Candace Parker on the cover is also available for next-gen consoles.
