All week long, EA Sports has been releasing player ratings to build the hype for the fast approaching Madden 23. We have seen pass rushers, running back, receivers, and more. Today, the rating reveals come to a close, as EA Sports just dropped all quarterback ratings in Madden 23. Just like the other reveals, there is sure to be plenty of debate and discussion surrounding who the best signal callers in the NFL should be.
Surprisingly, not a single QB will be in the prestigious 99 Club at the start of Madden 23. The highest rated QB this year is Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady, who will start the year at a 97 OVR. Brady comes in one point higher than two-time defending NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, who is rated a 96 OVR. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (95 OVR), Bills QB Josh Allen (92 OVR), and Bengals QB Joe Burrow (90 OVR) round out the top five.
These fives quarterbacks will be the only ones to be rated 90+ OVR when Madden 23 launches. Of course, there will be plenty of opportunities for more QBs to make their way into the 90+ OVR group, as EA Sports puts out their regular roster updates throughout the season. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (89 OVR), Chargers QB Justin Herbert (88 OVR), and Broncos QB Russell Wilson (87 OVR) are already close to that threshold, so it shouldn’t take much to push them over the line.
One notable QB downgrade compared to last year is Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson will start the Madden 23 cycle at an 87 OVR, making him the 8th rated QB in the game. This is a drop from last year, where Jackson had a 90 OVR rating at the launch of Madden 22. Jackson is coming off an injury riddled season where he threw for 2882 yards, 16 TDs and 13 INTs in 12 games. Jackson also rushed for 767 yards and 2 rushing TDs, both the lowest totals since his rookie year. While Jackson still has elite speed (96), agility (95), and acceleration (96) for a QB, his throwing accuracy medium (85) and deep (84) took a bit of a dip this year.
Patriots QB Mac Jones will be the highest rated second year QB at a 78 OVR, followed by Jags QB Trevor Lawrence at a 76. No other second year QB is above a 73 OVR. These are rough ratings for a QB class that saw so many guys go in the first round.
Speaking of young QBs, Falcons QB Desmond Ridder is the highest rated rookie QB in Madden 23 at a 70 OVR. Steelers QB Kenny Pickett, who was the only QB selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, is only rated a 68 OVR. This doesn’t even make Pickett the highest rated QB on his team, as playoff NVP QB Mitchell Trubisky is a 69 OVR.
Titans rookie QB Malik Willis is the most intriguing of the rookie QBs. Willis has 92 speed, the third highest of any field general in the game. The 69 OVR rating for Willis isn’t too bad for a rookie, especially one expected to sit at least his first year behind veteran Ryan Tannehill. Willis’ impressive ratings don’t stop with his legs. The third-round pick also has a 94 throw power rating, tied for 5th best in the game. The idea of a hard throwing mobile QB paired with Derrick Henry is sure to draw a lot of players to give the Titans a go in Franchise mode this year.
Which QB rating was the most surprising to you? Is there someone who you think is underrated or overrated? Who are you most excited to use when Madden 23 comes out on August 19?
