MLB The Show fans have been wondering when they will finally hear news about the next game in the series. MLB The Show 23 has not gotten any significant content updates since the start of what was supposed to be Season 6. This has left players eager for the next game. Now, fans won’t have to wait much longer, as we just found out when MLB The Show 24 will be revealed.
Cover Athlete Reveal
In a post on their X page, MLB The Show announced that they will be revealing the MLB The Show 24 cover athlete on their Twitch and YouTube channels on January 30th at 10 am PT. This announcement will kick off the usual marketing campaign that precedes the annual release of MLB The Show. The timing of this announcement is similar to that of previous years. Last year, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was announced as the cover athlete for MLB The Show 23 on January 31.

As far as who the cover athlete will be, there are two popular candidates amongst fans. The first is Guardians 3B José Ramirez. Ramirez is one of the best third basemen in the game today. He has been selected to three straight All-Star games and has finished top 10 in AL MVP voting each of the last four seasons. Ramirez was also featured in promotional material for MLB The Show 23 last summer. Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared in similar promotional content the summer before he was named the cover athlete for MLB The Show 23. This is the main reason fans believe Ramirez is the favorite to be the MLB The Show 24.
The other favorite for the MLB The Show 24 cover is Atlanta Braves phenom Ronald Acuña Jr. The Braves’ outfielder is coming off one of the most impressive offensive seasons in MLB history. Acuña put up a .337/.416/.596 slash line, with a 168 OPS+, 41 HRs, and 73 SBs. This made Acuña the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 40 HRs and steal 70 bases in a single season. This performance culminated in Acuña’s unanimous selection as NL MVP. At only 26 years old, Acuña is one of the young faces of baseball. Having a young, fun, charismatic player like Acuña on the cover would get players excited for MLB The Show 24.
Other Information
We may learn more than just who the cover athlete is next week. The last couple of cover athlete reveals for MLB The Show also revealed release dates and console information. This information will also likely be included in next week’s reveal.
MLB The Show has been very consistent with their release date over the past decade. Since MLB 15 The Show, the series has always launched in either late March or early April. The only exception to this was MLB The Show 21, which launched on April 20, 2021. Should this trend continue, we can expect to see a release date set for either the last week of March or the first week of April.
Fans have been debating when MLB The Show will leave 8th-generation consoles behind. The last three entries were released on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well as PS4 and Xbox One. The last two entries also launched on Nintendo Switch. Some fans feel like continuing to launch on these old systems is holding the series back. Fans have also been wondering if the series will ever make the jump to PC. Many players want to see this happen, as it would open up possibilities for modding and other fan-created content.
