Over the last decade or so, Twitch has been the most popular place to view live gaming content. Some popular streamers like Ninja, Ludwig, and Kai Cenat either started or currently stream on the platform. Over the weekend, one MLB The Show streamer joined the top tier of streamers on the platform with his recent milestone.

Record Breaking Accomplishment

The MLB The Show community is celebrating this week as one of its members has achieved an incredible accomplishment. Over the weekend, MLB The Show streamer YourFriendKyle became the 10th most subbed to Twitch streamer. As of the writing of this article, Kyle’s channel sits at over 30,000 subscribers on Twitch. Not only does this number put him in the top 10 on the platform, but it also sets a new personal record for Kyle’s channel.

The Evolution of Competitive Play in Sports Gaming Communities

On Twitch, viewers can subscribe to a channel to receive access to emotes, as well as to view the stream without ads. Subscribing to a Twitch channel is also a way for viewers to support the streamer directly. Viewers can subscribe to one of three tiers. Viewers are also able to gift a subscription to another viewer on the channel.

Kyle started streaming MLB The Show consistently back in 2019. In 2021, Kyle went from being a truck driver to a full-time content creator.  When asked if he thought then he would eventually become one of the biggest streamers in the world, Kyle said, “I like to have confidence in anything I try to do, but I’d be lying if I said I saw all of this coming. It’s truly been a blessing & I’m still in shock of how everything has happened.”

Kyle reached the milestone during his recent subathon. Before the event, Kyle’s subscriber count was sitting at around 8,000. However, he knew fairly quickly this event would be special. He beat his previous record of 21,000 subscribers at the halfway point of the month. At that point, his viewers were determined to push him over the 30,000 mark.

“It means the world to me but it’s mostly because it shows how insane my community is,” Kyle said on what the accomplishment means to him and the MLB The Show community. “I can’t speak to what it means for everyone else in the MLB community. I think it should give hope & motivation to anyone who wants to get started with creating content & it shows that the possibilities are endless.”
