This year’s E3 dipped into cars, mountain bikes, and snowboards. However, it was severely lacking in overall sports games. Last week’s series of Madden 22 announcements probably felt even bigger as a result. Today’s announcement that we will be seeing new Madden 22 details each day this week may feel like its own simulation football E3. EA released a reveal schedule for more details on the upcoming Madden 22 franchise mode, including a video and a Gridiron Notes.

Four content drops are happening this week from EA: Two episodes of its new Making Madden podcast (episodes 0 and 1), and two sets of details on Madden 22’s franchise mode. First, we’ll get a video deep dive on Franchise mode on Tuesday at 10 PM EST. Then, we get two podcast episodes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally, a Franchise Mode blog post wraps up the reveals on Friday.
EA tends to lead its reveal cycle with details on Madden’s Franchise Mode. Doing so this year feels like a much bolder move considering the amount of backlash EA has received this year over its perceived lack of interest in Franchise mode. An entire week of reveals shows that EA may care about Franchise Mode after all.
This year, leading with a week of Franchise Mode details seems like a tactic, too. If EA is committed to improving Madden 22’s Franchise Mode and show details that really impress fans of franchise, those pre-order numbers shoot up as those players come back into the fold. That is the best-case scenario, after all. We all want a better product, and a deeper simulation football experience. If what they show doesn’t impress franchise fans, they still have the same sales numbers to fall back on. Might as well start with the juicy stuff.
Madden 22 launches worldwide on August 20, 2021 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC.
