Last night, Michigan Wolverines fans saw their beloved team stand atop the college football world. The Wolverines took down the Washington Huskies to win their first National Championship since 1997. Meanwhile, gamers went to sleep just as disappointed as Washington fans.
Primetime Letdown
Going into Monday night’s CFP National Championship game, reports flooded the internet that EA Sports was expected to release new information on their upcoming College Football video game. 247 Sports originally reported that EA Sports was expected to release an update on the returning franchise. The report cited sources who said the update would coincide with the CFP National Championship game.
So, like it was Super Bowl Sunday, gamers eagerly awaited every commercial break. Many hoped we would get a release date and some info on what modes would be in the game. Others were just hoping for a simple screenshot or small gameplay clip.
However, Monday’s title game came and went with no new information being released. According to Brandon Marcello, who wrote the original story for 247 Sports, there were plans to make an update, but “Plans change.”
I stand by my reporting. An update was expected to be released Monday. EA had worked on a draft to share online. It didn't happen, and some inside EA were surprised it didn't.
Plans change. There was blowback after our reporting, but it was accurate at the time. I stand by it. https://t.co/xHP4UHAQJ3

Now fans will have to wait even longer to get more news on the most anticipated sports video game release in years. No matter when EA Sports does decide to officially reveal the game, it will go viral in a millisecond. EA Sports was one of the top trending topics on X last night during the National Championship game, and they didn’t even have to do anything. Just think about how many people are going to be talking about this game when there is an actual trailer and gameplay to break down and analyze.
For now, we all just have to wait for EA Sports to finally release more information about the game. The latest news said the game was still on track to release in Summer 2024. If that is still the case, then hopefully more information will not be too far away. We will keep you updated on any information that does eventually come out regarding the return of College Football games.
