One of the most disappointing stories to come out of sports recently is that of Jon Rahm. The number three golfer in the World was forced to withdrawal from the Memorial Tournament after testing positive for COVID-19 while in the lead.
His withdrawal cost him the chance to take home $1.75M in winnings at the tournament. A tough pill to swallow for anyone, even a professional athlete.
To help ease the sting a bit, 2K Sports and PGA Tour 2K21 is sending Rahm a little gift. The game is giving him $1.75M in virtual currency in the game. The gift was announced while wishing him luck in this weekend’s US Open Championship.
“[Jon Rahm] bummer about the $1.75M the other week, but fret not,” the post said. “We got you covered. $1.75M in virtual PGA Tour 2K21 currency is coming your way! We’re here to wish you good luck and ALL the birdies (and an ace or two) on the links this week.”

It’s not something that’s going to make Rahm forget about the fact he had to leave the tournament. But, it’s a fun little story to show the golf gaming community pulling for one of the most genuine personalities on the PGA Tour. Hopefully, he can make up for the real-world wages with a strong outing at Torrey Pines.
