Skate 4 “Launching Soon,” According To EA Earnings Call

Skate 2

Things have been quiet since we received the last bit of news about Skate. However, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson reassured fans that Skate 4 will release soon.

Andrew Wilson stated in an earnings call with shareholders that the unofficial Skate sequel will be launching “soon.” Now, Wilson did not provide a specific date or time frame for Skate 4’s launch. EA have yet to show any gameplay or information regarding a story mode. So the wording is a bit of a surprise, seeing as EA has been reticent about Skate.

During the call, a partner asked about user-generated content, in the context of NFTs. Wilson skates around whether or not EA will dip in into NFTs, saying he believes “collectability will continue to be an important part of our industry and the games and experiences that we offer our players. Whether that’s part of the NFT and the blockchain? Well, that remains to be seen.” He does say that user-generated content is the “very center of the design of Skate.”

It has been over a decade since Skate 3 was released. EA first announced a new Skate game in 2020. The last we heard about the new Skate was a behind-the-scenes look at the developmental process. In it, we saw motion capture and fans speaking about the game. We even saw the humor that the Skate franchise is known for. However, we saw no gameplay.

What We Know so Far About Skate 4

Despite the lack of information, fans have been clamoring for a new entry in the beloved franchise. Skate 3 suffered the same fate as another EA franchise, Fight Night. After both games’ last release, development was dead quiet. This left the future of both games up for debate. EA finally caved into the demands of a new Skate game after years of wishing.

Another exciting aspect of the new game is that Skate 4 is confirmed for PC. It is a first for the franchise, and is huge for the community. In theory, modding will help users generate even more content, by giving players unfathomable freedom in the game.

The new Skate is developed by Full Circle. It is a brand new studio led by the former head of Xbox Live, Daniel McCulloch.
