WWE 2K22 Major Leak Reveals Cover Athlete, Release Date, and More

While many were enjoying their Saturday nights, a major leak took place with some new information about the WWE 2K22 release date, cover athlete, and preorder bonus.

Nils Ahrensmeier, a writer for various outlets, broke all of the news on Saturday. The first piece of information being that Rey Mysterio would be this year’s cover athlete. Appearing on the game’s standard and deluxe editions, the news isn’t all that surprising. Mysterio has been featured heavily in the game’s promotion thus far, making it a somewhat obvious choice this year.

Moving on to the WWE 2K22 preorder bonus, those who purchase the Deluxe edition of the game will receive the “Undertaker Immortal Pack”. The pack includes three different alternate versions of the Undertaker — Phantom Mask Undertaker, Lord of Darkness Undertaker, and Boneyard Match Undertaker –, MyFACTION EVO cards for Undertaker, and MyFACTION Perks and Bonuses.

The tagline for the pack will apparently be, “When It’s Your Yard It Hits Different. Lay down chokeslams as The Deadman.”

The other edition of the game will be an NWO 4-Life version, though no information was revealed from Ahrensmeir.

WWE 2K22 Release Date and Platforms

Another major detail in Ahrensmeir’s leak is that WWE 2K22 will be releasing in three-day early access on Tuesday, March 8. That would lend credence to the belief that the game will see a standard release on Friday, March 11.

As far as consoles go, there is good news. Despite many rumors suggesting otherwise, WWE 2K22 looks to be heading to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. The cover that was leaked featuring Mysterio shows it as a PS5 box art. No consoles were mentioned within his postings, but based on prior releases, fans should expect the game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC as well.

SGO has reached out to 2K Sports for comment on the apparent leak. Should a response be received, the story will be updated accordingly. On top of that, SGO is also working to verify the legitimacy of the information as well, so please keep that in mind. In the meantime, it’s just going to be more waiting until the announcements of all of the game’s details are made.
